Known for their excellence in the choral art, the Liberty Chamber Singers perform music from the Renaissance to Contemporary periods. Under the direction of Dr. Wayne Kompelien the group holds concerts throughout the school year as well as taking a concert tour during spring break. They also frequently perform with Opera Roanoke taking chorus roles.

Dr. Wayne Kompelien has served on the Liberty University voice faculty since 1986. He twice placed in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in Kansas City. He received high acclaim for his portrayal of Olin Blitch in Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah. Dr. Kompelien has performed in fourteen major opera productions. His roles include Shaunard in La boheme, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, and Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia.  Dr. Kompelien founded the Liberty Opera Workshop in 1988 and has directed over fifteen productions during that time. He is also director of the Chamber Singers, a small select choral ensemble specializing in advanced choral repertoire. Dr. Kompelien is a past President of the Virginia District of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. He has sponsored numerous category winners at State and Regional NATS conferences and many of his students have successfully pursued graduate studies in vocal performance.
